Günter Förg's "Rivoli" was created in 1989 - and this is what the title of the work alludes to - for a solo exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary Art in the Castello di Rivoli near Turin. A series of rectangular, portrait format paintings, to which the present work belongs, structure and accentuate the architecture of the exhibition space. Each panel is divided into strips of different widths of alternating colour shades, creating a double rhythm that transforms the entire space. This is exactly Förg's intention, because he is interested in making the relationships between space and surface conscious.
