Max Ernst at the Hôtel de Caumont Art Centre

Ernst Objet mobile recommande 1970 1496 m

120 works by Max Ernst(1891-1976), which illuminate his artistic career, are on display at the Hôtel de Caumont-Centre d'Art in Aix-en-Provence until 8 October 2023. The presentation "Max Ernst. Mondes magiques, mondes libérés" is of particular importance since the range of his oeuvre is not likely to be known to the general public to this extent.

Max Ernst founded the Dada group in Cologne in 1919 and then went to Paris, where he participated in the development of Surrealism around André Breton. The multi-layered exhibition "Max Ernst" deals with the artist's major themes and his close connection to nature, play, magic and freedom. The focus is on the four elements - water, air, earth and fire - which, according to ancient philosophical tradition and alchemy, make up all matter in the natural world.
