Edvard Munch at the Museum Barberini, Potsdam, and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz

Edvard Munch - Minchen Torkildsen

After the Berlinische Galerie, Berlin, has been showing the exhibition "Edvard Munch. Magic of the North" since September 2023, the Museum Barberini in Potsdam is now also dedicating a solo show to the Norwegian artist with a completely different focus: the exhibition "Trembling Earth" (18 November 2023 to 1 April 2024) highlights Munch's depictions of nature, taking into account the artistic, scientific and philosophical currents of his time. Munch's dynamic compositions, which include enchanting beach and forest motifs as well as landscapes marked by storms and tempests, reveal a changing awareness of nature. On the one hand, the power of nature is evident; on the other, Munch reflects human existence and feelings in the mirror of nature. With more than 110 works, including loans from the MUNCH/Munchmuseet, Oslo, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, "Trembling Earth" explores this complex topic like almost no other exhibition before it.

Moreover, we are pleased to have made a contribution to the expansion of the Hilti Art Foundation collection through the sale of the portrait "Minchen Torkildsen". The painting is part of the current presentation "The Whole Palette" at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz. In addition to Munch, 40 masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Ernst, Gerhard Richter and others will be on display from 17 November 2023 to 27 October 2024.
