Cornelia Schleime studied at the Art Academy in Dresden, East Germany. The GDR issued an exhibition ban against her. After leaving East Germany, her figurative painting was soon appreciated in West Germany and she received numerous grants and prizes, such as the Hannah Höch Prize, the Fred Thieler Prize and the Gabriele Münter Prize.
The human being is at the centre of Schleime’s art, often overpainted photographs. The very personal oeuvre of the versatile artist also includes performance, films, music, and a novel.
