Delvoye‘s works celebrate the paradox, they continue the tradition of the Belgian Surrealists to combine contradictory elements or ideas in a single work - in this case heavy equipment with the delicate and elegant style of gothic cathedral architecture.
His true-to-scale models of trucks, cement mixers or excavators, cut from steel with lasers, question the conventional art terms as well as the difference between sacral and worldly art.
In the summer of 2003 works from this series were presented in the exhibition “Wim Delvoye: Gothic” in Central Park and Madison Square Park in New York City.
