"Chéri Bibi" is a fictional character from a novel by the French author Gaston Leroux. Leroux was one of the first crime authors of the 20th century. Exerpts from his novels were regularly published in the daily newspapers of his time. Leroux developed the character „Chéri Bibi“ in 1918. He was a congenial smalltime crook who was permanently on the run and regularly captured. He was the embodiment of the „bandit au grand coeur“.
