The artist, who cannot be categorised as either a painter or a sculptor, creates distinctive works from relatively simple materials. Depending on the size of the work, the creative process can take up to six months, as he works without an assistant. Spengler said about this in an interview: "I consciously work through these very complex processes because I also want my works to be distinguished by this, that it characterises them, and therefore it is of great importance for my work in precisely this form. That makes a kind of aura that lies around my oeuvre. You can feel that almost physically. That's what builds the emotional value, the connection to my works. The physical experience thus creates the emotional connection. I create the artistic value in a very classical sense through time and work, but without being driven by perfectionism. That's also why I can act far away from trends in art. I don't do fashionable art, because I approach my work much too classically for that. As with earlier classical artists, the viewers stand in front of my work and think, "What madness is this, to put so much work into it, and that's exactly what I want to achieve.
