Marianne von Werefkin's café scene from 1908 may reflect a location in Munich or Murnau to which Werefkin and Jawlensky traveled in the summer of the same year to paint with Kandinsky and Münter.
In terms of painting, the sheet is dominated by the two secondary colours orange and green, but the austere composition is particularly striking. The geometric regularity of the tables and the seriality of the plants placed on them, which is resumed by the two wall lights, is interrupted and accentuated only by the two people seated at one of the front tables and the figure on the left, presumably a cafe waiter.
