Rosemarie Trockel studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where she has been a professor since 1998. Her oeuvre, which always includes a provocative, political or social statement, often critizes the art business and traditional gender roles. Her versatile practice includes drawing, sculpture, photography, installation, objects, knitted pictures and videos. In the late 1980s Trockel’s oeuvre was not only recognized in Germany, but also in the US, with exhibitions at the MoMA New York, in Chicago and in Boston. In 1997 she was invited to participate in documenta Kassel, in 1999 she was the first woman to be included in the German pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
