Eduarda Emilia Maino, who called herself Dadamaino, was one of the major artists of the Italian Avanguardia – and the only woman. She was close to Lucio Fontana‘s ‘Spazialismo’ and Piero Manzonis ‘Azimuth’, and exhibited with the groups ZERO in Germany, Nul in The Netherlands, and Motus in France. The autodidactic artist devoted her work to the play of volume and space, light and shade, often with perforated picture planes. Dadamaino was twice invited to participate in the Venice Biennale.
