Jim Dine - New painting and sculpture

September 14, 2018 - October 27, 2018
Right into the heart

Jim Dine is showing news works at Galerie Thomas Modern on occasion of Open Art, Munich’s season opening.

The exhibition includes 15 large-format paintings and three sculptures, in which Dine combined his characteristic motifs with the technique of creating reliefs by collaging everyday objects. Often considered a primary representative of Pop Art, Jim Dine was also described as a neo-Dadaist or neo-Expressionist. In his individual language of signs and forms, developed over decades, the artist indeed took up and transformed all these influences, adding strong biographical references.

The use of seemingly everyday objects and symbols such as hearts, bath robes, and tools, or references to classical works of art history such as the Venus of Milo, can be read not only as reflections on the conceptual approach of Pop Art or as raising questions critical of society. Rather, Jim Dine‘s art aims at an analysis of the emotional and spiritual condition of man.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Annalisa Rimmaudo, curator at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
