Original Prints of Expressionism and Emil Nolde - 12 Original PrintsSeptember 14, 2018 - December 21, 2018
The image of Expressionism has been shaped in large part by printmaking. The woodcuts, lithographs and etchings convey the specific nature of the expressive will, the particular style of the Expressionist idiom beyond the dominance of colour in painting. In addition, in the various movements and individual artistic personalities, one senses very individual manifestations of the expressive. With selected prints by the prominent representatives of Expressionism in Europe, from Kirchner and Munch, through the other artists of the “Die Brücke” and “Blue Rider” schools, to Rohlfs and Beckmann - and with a special focus on the printmaking of Emil Nolde - Galerie Thomas’s exhibition shines a concentrated light on the printmaking of the Expressionist artists.
