Gormley is one of the outstanding artists of England. In his oeuvre, spanning almost 40 years, the human body and its relation to space has always been the central theme. In 1994 Gormley was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize and in 2007 the Bernhard Heiliger Award for Sculpture. He was made an Officer of the British Empire in 1997 and has been a Royal Academician since 2003.
