Uecker first studied painting, in the 1950s he developed his distinctive and recognizable style. In 1961, he joined the ZERO group, his first nail paintings, which were to become his trademark, date from this period. They are white-painted panels, studded with nails set at different angles. As the light and viewpoint change, the surfaces take on a life of their own, scattering an intricate play of visual effects. With Hammerschlag (Hammer Stroke) he visualized the process of creating these signature works. In the bronze, as in his nail paintings, the surface is important. Each of the bronzes has its very own individual patina, which sets it apart from the others. Provenance available
