Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Rottluff, Germany 1884 - 1976 Berlin, Germany

Karl Schmidt-Rottluff is a founding member of the artist´s community "Die Brücke" (The Bridge) and with his painter companions Kirchner, Heckel and Bleyl he shared the experience of primordial nature. His works from the first and second decade of the twentieth century, with their planes, their simplification of motifs and their brilliant colours have shaped the style of expressionism. From 1914 on, his landscapes, still-lives and portraits are influenced by cubism.
